With Antonio Brown gone, will the Steelers see more Cover-1 in 2019? – Behind the Steel Curtain clock menu more-arrow no yes Horizontal – White Horizontal – White Horizontal

Recently, we compiled a pair of glossaries that should be useful for fans when discussing the Steelers offense and defense. Throughout the summer, we will pull terms and concepts from those glossaries and give them a closer look. Today we break down the Cover-1 scheme with the following questions in mind: now that Antonio Brown is gone, will opposing defenses play more man coverage against the Steelers? And if so, how might we attack it? Let’s take a look. Here’s a quick refresher: in Cover-1, defenders man up against the receiver in front of them while a single-high safety patrols the sky. Man defenders stay attached to their receiver no matter the route, meaning there is no switching or pattern-matching. The safety, meanwhile, looks to either double the offense’s most dangerous threat or anticipate where the quarterback is throwing the football and provide help there. Cover-1 is best used with pressure since it’s unrealistic to expect DBs to stay in coverage for an extended period of time. Often, teams try to disguise their cover-1 looks so an offense can’t check into their man-beaters (more on that momentarily). The combination of pressure with single coverage makes Cover-1 a...

UK-based aircraft maintenance, modification and design company Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group (Marshall ADG) is using advanced 3D printing from Israeli company Stratasys to produce flight-ready parts for its aircraft. Marshall ADG is also using 3D printing to manufacture ground-running equipment at a lower cost than aluminium alternatives. Privately owned and independent aerospace and defence company Marshall is already using 3D-printed ductwork on modified aircraft, and holders for safety knives and switches for aircraft interiors. The company claimed that on-demand 3D printing of flight-approved parts allows it to produce lighter parts much quicker and at a lower cost compared with traditional methods. Marshall ADG materials, processes and additive manufacturing engineer Chris Botting said: “When manufacturing on complex engineering programmes, we need a method that can create an...

Linear servo motor technology continues to find its way into more and more packaging machines these

Linear servo motor technology continues to find its way into more and more packaging machines these days, so it was no surprise to see it featured by some of the exhibitors at the recent PACK EXPO International 2018 in Chicago. One such exhibitor is covered here. Italy’s Makro is exploring the use of ACOPOStrak from B&R Industrial Automation. Makro is a relative newcomer to the packaging machinery scene, having been launched about nine years ago. But management obviously has been paying close attention to emerging technologies that might be leveraged. Electronics Designer Simone Marcantoni puts it this way: “We’ve been watching ACOPOStrak coming out of development, so when B&R asked if we had any ideas about implementing it in our machines, the concept we came up with is C Leap. That is what we demonstrated at PACK EXPO.” Making this concept even more intriguing is that it integrates a pair of ACOPOStrak circuits, one directly over the other. The bottom one holds platforms on which the bottles rest. The top one holds the tops of the bottles and applies the downward pressure that holds each bottle firmly on its platform as the bottles are carried past label applic...

All 2,493 items targeted by China’s tariffs in US trade war — Quartz

China’s latest tariff retaliation, announced today, will hit some $60 billion in US exports, including hundreds of agricultural, mining, and manufactured products, threatening jobs and profits at companies around the United States.  Before the trade war starts in earnest, China bought about 17% of US agricultural exports and was a major market for other goods, from Maine lobster to Boeing aircraft. It has been the largest market for Apple iPhones since 2016. Since the escalation of tariffs, though, China has stopped buying soybeans and lobsters, and Apple warned it would miss its expected Christmas holiday sales figures because of trade tensions. In addition to the 25% tariffs below, Beijing also added 20% tariffs on 1,078 US products, 10% tariffs on 974 US products, and 5% tariffs on 595 US products (all links in Chinese). The list was translated from China’s ministry of finance press release using Google translate, and may be inexact in spots. Quartz also rearranged some items on the list to group them into categories, and they may not be in the order of their “harmonized tariff schedule” codes.  Honeycomb Panel, Corrugation Panel, Aluminum Panel – Flashion,https://www....

Stainless MMI: LME Nickel, Stainless Surcharges Fall Back

The Stainless Steel Monthly Metals Index (MMI) dropped two points again this month, now down to 67. The index stayed relatively flat during the past few months since jumping in February from 61 to 68. Several prices in the index dropped significantly this month. Most prices declined more moderately, in the 1% to 3% range, with a couple of prices holding steady. The LME nickel price declined 2.5% between May and June. During the first week of June, LME nickel prices dropped further but still managed to hold above $11,600/mt as of press time. According to the International Stainless Steel Form (ISSF), stainless steel melt shop production increased by 5.4% to 50.7 million metric tons in 2018, up from 48.1 million metric tons in 2017. The organization forecasts continued growth in 2019. In 2018, China accounted for 52.6% of global stainless steel production, according to ISSF. The U.S., meanwhile, accounted for 5.5% of global production. In absolute terms, the United States produced approximately 2.8 million tons of stainless steel last year, including slab and ingots. Nickel pig iron production from China and Indonesia will increase in 2019, as it did during 2017 and 2018, which wi...

Mesa/Boogie Strategy and Prodigy Bass Heads and TRADITIONAL POWERHOUSE 410 and 810 Bass Cabs

Mesa/Boogie is no stranger to the pages of Bass Gear Magazine. In fact, we featured reviews of the M6 Carbine head and PH212 cab in our very first issue. BGM #5 (“the Boogie issue”) featured reviews of the M3 head and PH112 cab, a Bass Gear Icon installment featuring Randall Smith, a Q&A with Dan Van Reizen, and a virtual factory tour of “the Home of Tone” in Petaluma, CA. We covered a lot of Boogie history in those prior issues, and I encourage you to give them a read, if you haven’t already. For this review, we will skip over some of the rich Mesa/Boogie history because: A.) it was already covered in BGM issues #1 and #5, and B.) we’ve got a lot on our plate to cover! We’d been hearing about these new all-tube bass heads since, well, issue #5! Needless to say, we’ve been a little anxious to check them out. But which one to pull in for review? The lunchbox-inspired Prodigy™, or the mighty Strategy™, with its eight KT88s? Doug West suggested that we check ’em both out, and how can a guy say no to that?!? But of course, we need some cool cabs to run ’em through, and it just so happens that Boogie VP and resident “Cab Wizard,” Jim Aschow, has a new line of bass enclosures, the...

When Christianity Was in Charge, This Is What We Got

Church and ministry leadership resources to better equip, train and provide ideas for today’s church and ministry leaders, like you. In 2014, I visited Hereford Cathedral in England and saw their mappa mundi (chart of the world). About 100 standalone mappae mundi remain, and this is the largest. It was made from a single calf skin, it’s a little over five feet tall, and it was made around 1300. This is not the kind of map we’re used to. There is little attempt at accurate geography. This map wouldn’t serve an explorer or navigator, and its creators didn’t pretend that it would. Using the theme of a world map, medieval cartographers embellished maps like this one to make them into something of an encyclopedia. Science was in its infancy, however, and the information was often bizarre. Humpty Dumpty explains what a tove is: “‘Toves’ are something like badgers, they’re something like lizards, and they’re something like corkscrews. . . . Also they make their nests under sun-dials, also they live on cheese.” Assuming our interest is the real world rather than Wonderland, the zoology we’re taught by the Mappa Mundi might as well have come from Humpty Dumpty. The drawing above s...
