Thanks to an assortment of aftermarket kits, installing air conditioning in a street rod is something that is easy to do for hands-on homebuilders, with one exception—making the necessary hoses. Generally the required hoses and the necessary ends are included, however those ends have to be crimped onto the hose to make a leak-free union. In most cases that means a trip to the local A/C installer, but there is another, more convenient, option from Eastwood: the Mastercool A/C Hose Crimp Set, PN 71550. The crimping kit comes with four sets of dies and is operated manually with a wrench. The sturdy construction and simple operation produces professional-looking, leak-free connections. As we are in the middle of installing A/C in two of our project cars we decided to order a crimp set and found it easy to use. It comes with the holding fixture assembly, die sets #6 (5/16 inch), #8 (13/32 inch), #10 (1/2 inch), #12 (5/8 inch), all in a molded storage case.
